Promising Outlook is a virtual outpatient treatment center based in Riverside, California serving adults across the state with both addiction and mental health needs. We run online PHP, IOP and outpatient programming over live video, five days a week, with individual therapy, family therapy and medication management built in. Many of our clients come to us for addiction. Many are also living with depression, anxiety or trauma, and we are licensed and credentialed to treat both at the same time.
If you have been putting off help because you cannot leave your job, your kids or your county, this is built for you. Call us and a real person will answer, day or night. If you are ready, you can start today.
Morning, midday and evening
Whenever you are ready
In network with Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, Tricare and United.
Most of the people who call us are calling about alcohol, opioids, meth or pills. Our addiction treatment runs over live video at every level of care: group every scheduled day, a counselor one on one, family therapy when you are ready, and Suboxone or Vivitrol managed by our prescriber when medication makes sense. If you need detox or residential care first, we will say so and help you find it.
A depression that will not lift, anxiety and panic, a trauma that keeps showing up, bipolar disorder. We are licensed and in network for mental health treatment on its own, not only alongside addiction. Group work on emotional regulation, individual therapy with your own therapist, and medication management for depression, anxiety and mood stabilization are all inside the program, five days a week, from home.
For a lot of people, the drinking and the depression are the same story. Dual diagnosis means addiction and a mental health condition at the same time, and we treat both together, in the same group, with the same clinicians, under one treatment plan. Treating one and ignoring the other is how people end up calling a second time. You do not have to choose which problem to work on.
Three levels of care
Virtual outpatient treatment gives you the same high quality care an in person program gives you, delivered virtually from your own living room, with the same structured care and clinical oversight. Promising Outlook runs three treatment options: a virtual partial hospitalization program (PHP) for people who need the most hours of support each week, a virtual intensive outpatient program (IOP) that most of our clients start in, and an outpatient program (OP) for people who are stable and want to keep the group. All three are licensed for substance use disorders and mental health conditions. You join from a phone, tablet or desktop computer with an internet connection, and a licensed clinician runs every group. It is virtual outpatient treatment California adults can start the same day they call, from any county in the state.
Highest level of care
Our highest level of care. More hours of group and individual therapy each week, plus medication management and a prescriber, for people who need more than IOP but do not need inpatient care.
Our core program
The core of Promising Outlook. Our virtual IOP program means group three days a week, individual therapy sessions and individual counseling every week, family therapy when you are ready, and an aftercare plan before you leave.
Step down
Our virtual outpatient program is a step down for people who have finished IOP or who are stable and want the structure to continue. Weekly group, weekly individual time, peer support that does not end at discharge, and relapse prevention that keeps going.
Our medical director reviews every treatment plan against your individual needs and your reasons for being here. Groups use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing.
Addiction
Most of the people who call us are calling about alcohol, opioids, meth, cocaine, prescription pills, benzodiazepines or other stimulants. Our online addiction treatment is built for all of them, whether you are looking for alcohol rehab you can do from home or a drug treatment program that fits around work.
You do not leave your job, your kids or your house to do it, and you do not do it alone. Group counseling meets every day you are scheduled, a counselor meets with you one on one, and when medication for opioid or alcohol use makes sense, our prescriber manages Suboxone or Vivitrol inside your program. If you need detox or residential care first, we will tell you honestly and help you find it.

Mental health
Many of our clients are also living with depression, anxiety or trauma, and some come to us for mental health alone. We are licensed and in network for mental health treatment, not only addiction, so a virtual IOP here can be about panic attacks, a depression that will not lift, or a trauma that keeps showing up. Group work on emotional regulation, individual therapy with your own therapist, and medication management for depression, anxiety and mood stabilization are inside the program.
Group work, individual therapy and medication management for a depression that will not lift.
Panic attacks, constant worry and the physical side of anxiety, worked on in group and one on one.
A trauma that keeps showing up, treated with CBT, DBT and a group that understands it.
Mood stabilization managed by our prescriber, with the structure of a daily group around it.
Trouble focusing, finishing or sitting still that followed you into adulthood, treated inside the program alongside the anxiety or substance use it so often travels with.
For a lot of people they are the same story. We treat co occurring disorders at the same time, in the same group, with the same clinicians, because treating one and ignoring the other is how people end up calling a second time.
The living room
A client once described us as a family having a conversation in the living room. That is the program we run. Recover from home, with a group that will notice if you are not there, from a rural county or the middle of Los Angeles. New people come in quiet. By the end, they are usually the ones asking everyone how yesterday went.
Here is how a morning goes. Group starts at 9:00 a.m. on a Google Meet link we send you. Everyone checks in: how you are doing today, and something you took from yesterday. If someone brought up a hard subject the day before, the group asks how it went. The first topic runs 45 to 50 minutes, with room for your own input. There is a break, a second check-in, and a second group. At the end, the group decides together what it wants to talk about tomorrow. The family picks the conversation.
You are not on your own between groups. Our program director, counselors and therapists stay in touch, and you have their contact information from your first day.

Groups, five days a week
Flexible scheduling
Groups run Monday through Friday with a morning group at 9:00 a.m., a midday group at 12:00 p.m., and two evening groups at 5:00 p.m. IOP clients attend three days a week. Pick the group that fits your work, your kids and your daily responsibilities, and keep your life running while you get better.
Evening groups exist because a lot of people cannot leave their job to get help, and when they find out the program is also virtual, the thought is simple. I can recover from home.
Clients typically stay four to five months. Most stay until their covered treatment days run out, not because they want to leave. If your days run out mid-month, you finish the month.
Morning, midday and two evening groups.
A private place to sit is all you need.
Individual therapy and counseling inside every program.
Why people stay
Anybody can say they care. We would rather tell you what we do.
Clients describe us as a family having a conversation in the living room. The group checks on each other, decides together what to talk about tomorrow, and notices when someone is not there. Come in quiet. You might end up opening group.
Nobody here routes you to a link to figure it out alone. If you call at 2:00 a.m., a real person in the United States answers and sets a time for the morning. Someone will sit with you and help you fill out the forms. That is a rule here.
We pay above market so our licensed clinicians are not working a second job and can keep their full attention on the group. At some programs, clients are an audience for the clinician's story. Here, the group belongs to you.
Set times, set days, check-ins at the start of every group, and an aftercare plan and relapse prevention plan before you leave. Not a pamphlet. A plan for lasting sobriety and a steadier life, written with you before discharge.
If you are here for your mom, your marriage, the court, your probation officer, or because you are tired, those are real reasons. We will help you accomplish what you came for. You do not have to do this for yourself. You just have to do it.
Joint Commission accredited. LegitScript certified. Licensed by the state for both addiction and mental health. In network with Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, Tricare and United, and ten years in Riverside.
Insurance
We are in network with Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, Tricare and United, and most major insurance plans cover virtual outpatient treatment the same way they cover in person care. California law requires most health plans to cover telehealth services.
You see right away whether it is a plan we are in network with.
We handle the paperwork with your insurance company. If we cannot take your plan, we will tell you and point you to a program that can.
Same-day admission whenever you are ready.

Our team
Our therapists and counselors are licensed, and their schooling, credentials and years in the field are on our team page.
Dr. Michael Valdez has been part of Promising Outlook since the program began. He oversees medication management for mental health and for opioid and alcohol use, and reviews every treatment plan.
Dean has worked in addiction treatment since 2005, is a CCAPP certified drug and alcohol counselor, and holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. He ran inpatient substance use programs as a program director and clinical director before coming here, and he supervises every therapist on our team.
FAQ
Virtual outpatient treatment is addiction and mental health treatment delivered over live video while you live at home. At Promising Outlook that means group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy and medication management, on a set schedule, with licensed clinicians, at three levels of care: PHP, IOP and outpatient.
Research says yes for outpatient care. A peer-reviewed study of more than 3,600 adults in intensive outpatient treatment found that people treated through virtual IOP did as well as people treated in person on substance use and daily functioning up to a year after discharge. Our clients also show up to a virtual group more consistently than most people ever showed up in person.
People search for online rehab programs, virtual outpatient rehab California, substance abuse treatment online, telehealth addiction treatment and virtual IOP, and they mostly mean the same thing: evidence based treatment you join from home. We call it virtual outpatient treatment because that is what it is. It is clinical treatment with licensed clinicians, not a support group, though the group is where a lot of the healing happens. Detox and residential care are not something we offer online, and we refer out for both.
A phone, tablet or desktop computer, a reliable internet connection, and a private place to sit for group. We send a Google Meet link. Everything is HIPAA compliant and confidential, and before your first group you give informed consent to telehealth, which California law requires and which you can withdraw at any time.
Adults 18 and older in California who are living with alcohol or drug use, depression, anxiety, trauma, or both, and who are safe at home between groups. If you need 24 hour supervision or medical detox, you need a higher level of care first, and we will help you find it.
Usually, yes. We are in network with Aetna, Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, Tricare and United, and California law requires most health plans to cover telehealth the same way they cover in person treatment. Coverage varies by plan, so we verify your benefits before you start. We are currently out of network with Anthem and do not accept Medicaid or Medi-Cal; if that is your coverage, we will point you to a program that can take you.
Clients typically stay four to five months across the program. Most stay until their covered days run out, and if that happens mid-month, you finish the month.
Yes. Morning, midday and evening groups run five days a week, and IOP is three days a week. Many of our clients keep working and parenting the whole time; maintaining work and family responsibilities is part of why they chose a virtual program.
Yes, when you are ready. With a signed release, family members join family therapy and become part of keeping you accountable. Family, courts, parole and probation all refer people to us, and we welcome those clients.
A real person answers, asks how you are doing, and listens before asking about insurance. If you are ready, we can admit you the same day. If it is after hours, a real person in the United States sets a time for the next morning.

Hope for a better tomorrow
Things can be different.
You do not have to believe that yet. We will believe it for you until you do. A real person will answer, day or night.
